As well as their normal Autumn/Winter collection, John Smedley released a small Autumn ‘capsule collection’ for women. Eight easy-to-wear items that could be mixed and matched to create a number of different, stylish looks. All pieces were black and made from the finest hand-finished merino wool, cashmere and silk. It consisted of shrugs, polo necks and even a trench coat. The unique feature of each piece was that they were seamless!
These images were retouched in four-colour black and white to give amazing depth to the clothing. It involved a very delicate juggling act to get the hue and ink densities correct throughout the complete tonal range.
As all the clothing was black, the aim was to ensure the contrast of textures was distinct in every garment. I even went along to the press pass with the art director to ensure the images were perfected on the selected stock.
